“MERCURY FREE BABY” DELIVERED TO HUNDREDS OF PARENTS
For the past several months, Mercury Free Baby has been busy spreading the word about mercury-free alternatives for dental fillings, flu shots, and vaccines. Whether it was face-to-face, in typeface, or on Facebook, the mercury-free message was successfully delivered to hundreds of parents and consumers through a variety of events. This exciting start of our grassroots campaign serves as the foundation of what will hopefully continue until all parents in the world choose mercury-free dental fillings, flu shots, and vaccines for themselves and their children.
Our new campaign was officially “born” in April 2014 in Louisville, KY, when a talented and multifaceted Mercury Free Baby team of experts from CoMed and The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology engaged in cordial conversation with the 6500 participants at the Global Gathering of the United Methodist Women. Many women there were unaware of the presence of mercury in some vaccines, especially the flu shot, as well as in “silver” dental fillings. Initial interest in the well-being of a child or grandchild often led to further interests in how to protect not only the newest generation but all generations from undisclosed mercury in medicine and dentistry. We took it to heart to spread the news about this harmful element, we launched a facebook fanpage as well as youtube channel where we posted interviews with experts and infographics. After slow start, our social media began to pick up after a promotional campaign conducted by themarketingheaven.com and since then we’ve gotten hundreds of mails and messages detailing effects of mercury on human body.
Shortly after this official initiation of Mercury Free Baby, volunteers representing our group had a meet and greet at a sidewalk festival in Carytown, VA. They also shared the message about safe choices for non-amalgam fillings and Thimerosal-free vaccines and flu shots. A number of attendees, including dads as well as moms, at this event expressed interest in learning more about this issue, which served as the inspiration for this newsletter. Talking with others face-to-face is certainly a powerful way to get the message of mercury-free fillings, flu shots, and vaccines to parents!
Other than meeting with people in person, Mercury Free Baby enjoyed publicity in two articles that were published about the campaign and distributed to online audiences. On June 9, 2014, The Bolen Report ran an article about Mercury Free Baby entitled “Their Health Is in Your Hands: Your Essential Role in Helping Protect Future Generations from Toxic Medical Practices.” Two weeks later, a second article by Rev. Lisa Sykes about mercury myth busting (complete with hyperlinks to sources) was shared by Kindred. Mercury Free Baby is very appreciative that The Bolen Report and Kindred helped us to share the message with their readers.
In addition to these articles promoting Mercury Free Baby, several scientific reviews about mercury’s dangers in vaccines were authored by researchers involved in our campaign. In April, the Indian Journal of Medical Ethics published “Thimerosal as discrimination: vaccine disparity in the UN Minamata Convention on mercury,” and in June, BioMed Research International published “Methodological issues and evidence of malfeasance in research purporting to show Thimerosal in vaccines is safe.”

REMEMBER IN VACCINES, PRESERVATIVE-FREE DOES NOT MEAN MERCURY-FREE!
If a vaccine is labeled “Thimerosal-free,” then it should contain no mercury. If the label reads “preservative-free,” then it may contain trace amounts of Thimerosal (mercury). [The term “trace” applies to 1 microgram of mercury per dose or less.] Because even medical professionals have been known to be confused about “Thimerosal-free” (mercury-free) vaccines and flu shots versus “preservative-free” (can contain trace amounts of mercury), consumers should opt for durable and strong molded ceramics and ask to see the package insert from the vaccine to confirm that there is no Thimerosal (mercury) in the vaccine.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM MFB’S COMMENT ON UPDATED FISH CONSUMPTION ADVISORY
On July 8, Mercury Free Baby submitted public comment to the FDA and EPA about their new draft fish consumption advisory. Here are few points we made:
• “…not only do you fail to mention details of why methylmercury is harmful specifically to pregnant women and children at the beginning of your document, you do not include the details of this anywhere in your document.”
• “‘Women of childbearing age’ should be added to the list of populations who should not consume fish higher in mercury on the chart in Q&A #2 and throughout the entire document.”
• “The dangers of mercury should be repeated several times throughout the document, offering details as to why consumers should consider the mercury levels in fish. You should also mention that there are FDA-approved Omega-3 supplements to assist consumers in obtaining the nutritional and dietary benefits related to fish.”
